“Rare is the Detroiter who hasn’t heard the accented order yelled from waiter to a cook 5 feet away: Two-to-go-no-onions.”

Why it tastes like that

One recipe. A hundred years of practice.

The American Coney Island hot dog has been a favourite with Detroiters and visitors for over a century.

The reasons for the great popularity are the high quality, specially-seasoned, natural skin casing hot dog from Dearborn Sausage and our own Keros family secret recipe Coney Island Chili Sauce, developed decades ago. Add to that a topping of fine mustard and sweet chopped onions — the final touch to the distinctive flavour.

Served in a warm steamed bun, it’s no wonder the American Coney Island hot dog has been such a tantalizing treat that’s still hard to beat after all these years.

Since 1917

One of the oldest family-run businesses in Detroit.

Founded in 1917 by Constantine “Gust” Keros, and still run by his family on the same corner.

A few years later Gust’s brother William came over, learned the business at the American, and opened Lafayette Coney Island in the storefront next door. The two have been side by side ever since, and Detroit has been arguing about it ever since too. We are the one on the corner.
